The Ice Harvest (***)

Inspite of John Cusack and Billy Bob Thorton, The Ice Harvest left me a little cold. In a nutshell, the movie is about a $2 million heist from the mob and a series of double crosses. It's noire and comedy. The best part of the movie, I thought, was an insane fifteen or twenty minute visit to the ex-wife's house on Christmas Eve. Mostly the movie was predictable, with some funny moments offset by some wrenching twists, but the real failure was that not one character was likeable in the least. Everyone in this movie is a scumbag. Really, kind on depressing. Yet, the movie did entertain. (viewed 5-19-06)
